Watch Where You Are Planted
Psalm 1:1-6 NIV
1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
In verse 1, the speaker is describing here the attributes of a blessed man. A blessed man, or woman, delights in the law of the Lord. The word "law" there speaks specifically about the old covenant laws of Moses. The literal translation is Towrah, which is basically God’s direction. It should be on our mind always. How often are you thinking on God's commands when you walk your life?
Anytime you see water in scripture, it is the Holy Spirit. So we plant ourselves near the Holy Spirit. If we are constantly keeping our minds on God and his commandments, then we are constantly tapped into the holy spirit. Because of our direct pipeline, we bear fruit when we are operating in our calling. We do not grow tired. We do not fail. We do not get weak and give up. We prosper in everything we do. By this scripture, if you stay connected to the holy spirit, no matter what you are called to do, you will not fail. This is where many in ministry fall short. It is easy to pout out into others to the point that you run dry. You need to be connected to avoid that burnout.
Plant yourself in a place that you can connect regularly and be fed regularly - surround yourself with the right people. One of my favorite things about Come Together, I say this all the time, is that its a group of women from all different churches and backgrounds. The common characteristic is we desire to know God more. Wherever you are, whatever church you attend, make sure you are in a place that is connect to the water where the word of God is spoken completely.
